Highlights from Latest Inspection
What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision does not meet requirements Leaders do not ensure that they meet the requirements for the early years foundation stage.
The out-of-school club has undergone many changes to the leadership and management team and staffing arrangements since the last inspection. Not all staff have the qualifications needed.Despite these weaknesses, staff at the club build very positive relationships with children and they are good role models.
Mixed ages of children from the host school and the nursery arrive happy and enthusiastic. They are eager to join in. Children quickly settle to planned activities.
For example, older children read books from sch...ool, and younger children listen to stories read by staff. The youngest children who also attend nursery class are assigned a key person to help to support their emotional well-being. Children demonstrate that they feel safe and emotionally secure.
Staff consistently promote children's positive behaviour and encourage good manners, particularly when they sit together for snack time. Children listen to and follow instructions and they behave well. Staff encourage children's communication and language skills.
They engage in friendly conversations about 'Earth Day' and explain what is happening next, such as during routines. Children demonstrate that they feel comfortable talking to staff, for example, while they build with construction. They are confident communicators and talk openly about their school day.
Children's well-being is supported by staff.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The provider does not meet requirements of the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage'. For example, they have not notified Ofsted of management changes.
The provider has not ensured that someone in the management team has the qualifications required for their role. These are breaches of the requirements. There is no named deputy manager to ensure the effective running of the club and maintain children's safety in the absence of the manager.
This compromises children's welfare. The new manager evaluates the quality of provision and practice. They monitor new staff and provide support and guidance to help them to understand their responsibilities.
The manager and staff have sound safeguarding knowledge and they keep their safeguarding knowledge current. They know who to report their concerns to within the organisation and external agencies. The manager completes daily checks of the environment to ensure that it is safe for children to play.
There are arrangements in place to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children who need targeted support grow in confidence and develop independence because of the support they receive from staff. The manager ensures that children are well supervised to help to keep them safe.
For example, they understand that new staff who have not yet had their suitability checked must not have unsupervised access to children. This helps to promote children's welfare.Overall, staff interact positively with children.
They join children in their play to help to engage them further and support their development. For example, staff enthusiastically support the youngest children to build with construction pieces, and praise older children when they complete a puzzle.Mixed ages of children engage positively in the activities provided to support their enjoyment.
For example, children create pictures from a range of materials to celebrate 'Earth Day', and younger children enjoy acting out experiences through role play. However, there are limited opportunities and activities available to consistently meet children's individual needs and to help to engage them to a higher level.Staff seek and value the views of children during their time at the club.
For example, the manager has introduced a suggestions box for children to engage in the planning of activities that they are interested in.Parents comment highly about staff and the club. They appreciate the good communication from the manager and support for children, particularly the youngest children, to help to meet their individual needs.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. There is not an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage, the provider must: Due date ensure that there is a named deputy who is capable of taking charge in the manager's absence 03/06/2024 ensure that a member of the management team holds a qualification to fulfil their role.
