What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children arrive happily, and are eager to engage in activities.
They are encouraged to join in at 'circle time', where everyone says their name, for example so that they get to know each other. Staff provide good support to any child who is new or feeling hesitant. This helps children to settle in quickly and creates a positive atmosphere.
Children feel valued as they participate in drawing up the rules for the club, and are included in decision-making. For example, children are able to suggest games or activities they would like to take part in. Children's behaviour is very good.
Children make independent choices... about their play in the spacious indoor environment. They engage for long periods of time creating their own pictures, using colouring pencils and scissors to cut materials. They enjoy a variety of board or other games, where they learn about turn taking and the rules of the different games.
Children's physical development is promoted well. They are eager to play outside, and enjoy team games, such as dodgeball. Children listen well to instructions, and encourage their friends by cheering them on when they take part.
Children also accept when they have been 'tagged' and are out. Children are free to join other activities if they do not wish to participate in the team games. Younger children, for instance, have immense fun building up a 'marble run'.
This challenges their thinking skills as they connect pieces together and predict whether the marbles will roll down the structure.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children are encouraged to drink water regularly, especially before and after physical activity.Good hygiene practices are in place. Children understand about regular handwashing, and are independent in these tasks.

The arrangements for drop off and collection have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Children are met at the gate in the morning, and are escorted to the gate, where they meet their parents at the end of the day.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff have a good understanding of how to protect children. They understand the correct actions to take should they be concerned about a child's welfare. They understand their responsibilities for reporting any concerns, if they were worried about the conduct of a colleague.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training to keep their knowledge up to date. The manager and staff team complete daily checks on the premises and equipment to ensure all areas of the club are safe and secure. The ratio of staff to children is appropriate, and staff supervise children effectively.
